MARS & the Five Years Gone Bye [Oct. 8th, 2008|12:47 pm]
[Tags|, , , , , , , , , , , ]

Today is the 5th anniversary of the first song officially recorded under the name MARS which stands for Michael Aaron Reyes Songs.
Several to be MARS songs were written in March, April, & June of 2003 and Minds 1-14 contained resamplings of some tracks on Piemerican Disc (from 2002).
The song Mind 7 from Minds 1-14 was the first song officially recorded to harddisk under the MARS name. I recorded it live from playing on my keyboard. I worked the song out but then ran into trouble of forgetting how to record properly on my computer to where plugged the keyboard into the computer then plugged the line out to the line in making it so I couldn't hear myself play. I ended up playing it with the wrong soundbank but I stuck with the recording anyway and mixed it up a bit.
This is also why the songs on Minds 1-14 had dead air. In the case of those songs I used programs on the computer to make the music live where I could hear myself but with the jacks rerouted it caused dead air on the tracks which I think gives it a unique feel among other electronic records which are usually chrisp and clean.
I also recorded cORNERED Placement, a remix of cP from Piemerican Disc & Death which was complete from June but not yet put to wav as it had appeared as a midi in my game Greedy Ghost.

Here are Egg/Muzzz's Reviews of these 3 tracks:
Mind 7 is a solo piano track by MARS. After a shaky tremolo, it leaves you hanging on a faint swishing sound only to let you know a few seconds later...THE PIANO'S STILL THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
cORNERED Placement is a haunted house tune, supposedly a remix of cP from the Piemerican Disc. Brings back memories of Mario haunted houses, that it does.
Death wouldn't feel completely stupid if it lived on a Turok soundtrack, even with it's blinking light piano sound at the beginning.

Mind 7 later went on to be remade for the MARS 1 year Anniversary ep Dismemories.

I just came back here to comb through the archives to link some of my old commentary about making MARS music in 2004 to the MARS website.

Ah.. I must also mention that I just wrapped up the loose ends to my Super Mario World hack and now the final, 20 level version is finally released.

Blog Update 10/1-2/05 [Oct. 2nd, 2005|08:38 pm]
[Tags|, , , , , , , , , , , , , ]
[Current Mood | sore]

Saturday
We went to Taco Bell & ate a lot tacos
We then went to Joenan's new residence. On the ride there I updated Joenan on my life. We played video games in Joenan's barn. I utilized the hammock then jumped on the trampoline. We went inside due to rain.
We watched some movies including Napoleon Dynamite which I had not yet seen. I like that it was different but there were really no laugh out loud moments & it has been way over hyped by annoying fans of it.
I watched the TNA Impact! Spike tv debut, great!
  Sunday
I watched movies with ONJ & we ate a lot. I went outside at night & jumped on the somewhat slippery trampoline by myself.
I got about 2 hours of sleep.
We watched Stella (as recommended by me) & ate breakfast.
I jumped on the trampoline a lot. I also jumped off of it. Twice I jumped to fall on my back & the trampoline hit the ground which makes my back sore indeed.
On the way of Joenan taking me home Joenan says he is strongly pushing for naming a kid of his Nexus Green. We went to Wendy's & ordered much food. We arrived at my residence. Joenan & I looked at the days trampoline photos & he left to go to work.

My parents said that I was called by Fred's on Saturday (& also that my brother's family stopped by) so later I called Fred's & I have a job interview this Tuesday at 10.

I really miss Lori. Not quite like I have previously. I miss talking to her & our wonderful friendship. I love her so much.

That does it for this weekend. I need to rest & recuperate.

Blog of the Week 9/25-29/05 [Sep. 29th, 2005|05:28 pm]
[Tags|, , , , , , , , , , , ]
[Current Mood | tired]

Lori asked me to do my blog of the week. So I thought that I better do something to make what I say bloggable (if there is such a thing).

We didn't go to church on Sunday due to weather.
The bulk of the week I spent watching tv, playing video games, & surfing the net for things related to pro-wrestling. I also downloaded & organized a lot of things related to that.
TNA Wrestling is coming to Spike tv this Sat. at 10. That along with WWE Raw's 3 hour homecoming show on the USA network makes for the biggest most exciting time in wrestling in a long while.

And for today I went out job searching.
Before I left I found that my classic & favorite pants of all time which are size 42 waist  now require me to wear them with a belt. That to me is the ultimate convincing of my unintentional weight loss. I haven't had to use a belt with these pants in years (I actually can't remember when I did). The button on these pants once flew off while I was at school & I still wore them without the button due to my great fatness. I'm sure that I wouldn't have been able to wear them at the time if it did have a button. I never had any problems there.

I parked at Kroger & walked about Millington. Now I have virtually walked through the entirety of Millington. I stopped at many places & asked the places if they were hiring. I also walked foolishly much of the time for the sheer fun of it. The places that did give take apps were Fred's, which I filled out in the store & turned in, & Ryan's. At Ryan's I stopped there & got an app. I then walked more & filled it out on a cement post where the old Wal-Mart used to be (the no loitering sign was out of my view). On the way back I turned in the application at Ryan's. I apparently came at the right time as the guy I spoke to seemed like some fancy hiring guy or something. He told me to call Monday morning to see if he could set up an interview.

I noticed that almost nobody walks anymore in town. I could look both ways on the sidewalk & see absolutely no one. Walking town is fun but I sure love not having to take over 1 hour to walk to town from my house & even longer back to it. I loved being able to drive home. Both walking & driving are very good.

Funny & sad how I wrote so much about my pants. I've lost my hair & am now seeming to loose much weight. What will be left of me except my dynamic personality which people liked me for to begin with?

Much tiredness from walking. I wish Smackdown was still on Thursdays I feel like I need it. Perhaps because both of my past 2 Thurs have been busy. I have plenty other wrestling to watch in that time slot I downloaded so I'll be fine.

I love you Lori. I love all you other blog readers too but certainly not in the same way I barely know you & I'm engaged to Lori so it wouldn't work out. Sorry guys & gals I'm taken for life by the most wonderful girl to me ever.

[Current Mood |good enough]

Today I played video games & listening to wrestling radio talk shows online.

I wen to Wal- Mart during the 8 pm hour. We got some mini pies which I've eaten one so far. Also some excellent Doritos. Both bags the best I've ever had.

I'm still avoiding thinking about missing Lori or how we aren't talking etc. so due to that I don't feel so bad.

I love you Lori. This blog is for you.

Our Strange inception. [Aug. 16th, 2004|04:10 pm]

[Current Mood | impressed]
[Current Music |MARS- Droing]

(An e-mail I sent to Joenan about our begining in music.)

I just realized something! well not just now because I had to type it
but no long ago I realized

You have spoken of }the Joemeister{ being the one which lead you to
guitar playing. I realize his is partly responsible for me musicness as
well. Though I did buy a keyboard & make some songs in 2001*, my
computer music making started with Presto midi maker which I got from a
site about RPG maker 2k (I wasn't necessarily looking for it but I saw
it & it looked good) & that made me become interested in midi music
which I then made W1 in an attempt to make music for my game & minutes
later I had my first midi masterpiece 1. All this because of }the
Joemeister{ introducing me to RPG maker!

*note in order for me to take credit I will mention that I recorded
Climbing A Spiral Staircase in the Dark July 31, 2002 on my computer
then I actually researched it & found myself to be unable to take
credit again because W1 & 1 were written 7/25/02 (& saved to midi file)
which predates my first computer wav recording of Climbing A Spiral
Staircase in the Dark on 7/31/02.
though still I did make some songs with my keyboard in 2001, sadly &
strangely I must give some credit to }the Joemeister{ for indirectly
getting me into computerized music.

[Current Mood |Injured!]

I have bad hand injury on me right hand from yesterday at about 4:20 pm. I began washing dishes, first a glass & it busted & cut the to of my index finger badly. Now I'm left handed for a while. Tis the worst injury of my life, & yes it has been a good life.

Need to switch keyboard enter key sticks. I've mainly been reading Mad Magazine as I have limited tv & can't play videogames (screwed). This does get me out of working for a while which is good & bad.

[Current Mood | artistic]
[Current Music |Comes A Time... -Glen Phillips]

I intending to make some short throwaway tracks for Jealous Buried Passion Concept Look but instead ended up with a 15 minute song which I chose to title Ibex from an === lyric & earlier today I made some artwork so due to the contrasting style of the song Ibex to Wonder & its quality to great for JBPCL I've decided to make an album by the name Ibex. I've made 2 other songs for it & moved Chronic Whispering in Sleep from JBPCL to this. I plan to finish Ibex very soon & then continue working on Wonder & JBPCL. Though what I have to Ibex is great, Wonder is to be my money shot top knotch cd. I wanted to have a great follow up to Held & I think Ibex can do it. Another single from Wonder is to be released tomorrow for the site.

I'm getting the latest MAME which finally brings back my beloved Sengoku 3, hope it works.

[Current Music |Alice In Chains, Thursday]

Joenan & I went to varied places today including Lowe's, Pizza Hut, & a swap meet which swords were looked at & I obtained Dynamite Cop (DC). We then went to Eggabalt Muzzington's living quarters receiving song which he & Joenan had made earlier in the week. I also gave Egg/Muzzz my 2 newest MARS cds. At Joenan's residence we practiced the songs which were received & wrote a bit of lyrics. We also decided to join our double named = line up into one band & name which is something I, the band founder & leader, came up with. I dreaded the confusion of performing under 2 or 3 names. Joenan & I came up with names & voted on them at my place. Eggabalt is to unknowingly be the chooser of the band name based on a point system we did.

Colossus- from back of Gladiator VHS
Abyss- from thesaurus -used name in 90s
Rose Garden Dream- from MARS release
The Government- from ( ) -used name in 60s,70s
The Best- from ( )
External Implosion- from MARS release

Only Joenan & I have voted so far as I know, Colossus & Rose Garden Dream are the top names.

10 Best Games of All Time [Jun. 6th, 2004|12:47 am]
[Tags|, , , , , , , , , , , ]

I'm going to mix my opinion with what I think are actually the greatest games of all time

10. Pac-Land (Arcade)-unbeliveable for 1984!
9. Phantasy Star 1 &/or 2(Master System/Genesis)- great games all around 2 has the best ending of any game ever
8. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Gensis)- Better than the first one
7. Space Invaders (Arcade)- this is why video games exist
6. I, Robot (Arcade)- innovative & the first game to use polygons
5. Nights Into Dreams (Saturn)- nothing like it before or after
4. Doom (PC)
3. Shenmue 1 &/or 2 (Dreamcast/Xbox)
2. Virtua Fighter (Arcade)- EVERY 3d fighting game is based on this.
1. Super Mario Bros. (NES)- why explain?

The Greatest Game of All Time [Jun. 6th, 2004|12:34 am]
[Tags|, , , , ]

I tend to look at all the factors of a game within its time frame & out of it also
everyone always picks their favorites they don't actually think long & hard about what the true best games of all time are.

though I'm not a nut about the game I have to say...
Super Mario Bros. its too fun, too good, & too ground breaking to be ignored.
Sure it took some hints from Jungle King, Bongo (lava pits), & certainly the incredible Pac-Land (which I might have put at #1 if not for the following reason) but it also completely blew those away & it has a loving place in more people's minds/hearts than probably any other game.

Game Console Names [Jun. 5th, 2004|10:19 pm]
[Tags|, , , , , , , , , , ]

Seriously Sega had the best console names ever, virtually no other company (excluding Atari's later systems) even seemed to try to name their consoles.

Look at the crap we have today
X box
Game Cube
Playstation 2!!!
Game Boy Advance
N-Gage what!? oh Engage! well it still sucks mad.gif

& it ain't gonna get no better

sorry for that rant, its just what is wrong with these moron companies!?

Dreamcast is the greatest console name ever!

& at least some thought went into it.

to me its like "your dreams have been casted into this console" which they were (I'm bias b/c its my fav. console ever)

and Sega had other classics like
Master System, Genesis, Saturn
