Life Log for Friday, June 29, 2007 - Star & Micey at American Apparel
Saw Star & Micey at American Apparel in Downtown Memphis

Lori decided not to go because of the long standing that would occur.

It took a while to find a parking spot.
The parking was so bad that I told each of the fellows from Star & Micey (separately) after I had been there over 1-3 hours that Lori actually came with me but was still trying to find a parking space. They both completely believed me.
The whole time I was there I stood, watched, & listened.

A moment came up where someone was handing out flyers. Nebraska was on the mic trying to remember the Mitch Hedberg joke relating to this. Because I remembered I stepped up to the mic & told the joke, "When someone hands you a flyer it is like their saying 'Here you throw this away'" Of course I then complained that after years of writing my own jokes the first time I got to tell one on a mic with an audience it was someone else's material.

I met Nebraska's mom and she told me how she enjoyed my book Lesson Mania! (on sale now!)

Star & Micey had dedicated songs to various people during the night & I had been there the most consistently it seemed due to my enjoyment of their music. So toward the end I demanded that they dedicate one to me. They then attempted to dedicate the song to "Mr. Reyes" but Josh Reyes (Dr. J) was there so I yelled to them "That's not good enough!" So they eventually dedicated the song to (The Joe) which is a good unique name to identify me.

As they packed up after the show I, of course, provided verbal entertainment. This is one such selection:

When I first traveled through time as a cave man I went to the Fire Dept. and I said to the guy there "You know I've been trying for a long time to make fire. I've tried rocks and sticks but it just hasn't worked out for me. Do you have any fire here?" And they said no!Since then I've been to every fire dept. I can find and none of them have fire. I just didn't know it would be this hard.

Thanks to the wind I came up with the great idea of the preventive combover.

I went back to my car & when I had parked I thought I had parked at the end of a block where no one could park behind me because I was horrible at parallel parking and unparking. Someone did find a way to park behind me so I spent 15 minutes or so trying to get out of this spot praying in despair. Someone who noticed me and wanted my parking spot came up to my car asking if I would save the spot for them while they went and got their car. Taking this as God's provision and not a dangerous potential car theft incident I agreed only if he would drive my car out of the parking spot. All went well with this and I headed home.
